Unilin Brings Recycled-Fibre MDF to Furniture Panels

Unilin has brought recycled-fibre MDF into its commercial panel offering, according to Surface & Panel’s report dated 7 October 2026. The manufacturer confirms that products were introduced in 2026 across the Fibrofit, Fibromax and Clicwall ranges.
The current development concerns commercial products. The industrial recycling facility in Bazeilles, France, was announced in October 2025; this is not a new factory opening.
From used panels to new production
According to Unilin, Osiris separates wood fibres from the binder for reuse in panel manufacturing. The company reports up to 25% recycled wood fibres and uses an ISCC PLUS-certified mass-balance system. This figure should be understood within that production and certification framework, rather than as a fixed independently measured percentage in every board.
Surface & Panel identifies separate collection and processing streams for used MDF and HDF as a further challenge requiring cooperation among collectors, processors and manufacturers.
MKK® Industry Perspective
For architectural refurbishment, the development invites a broader view of furniture service life. Decisions about renewing a surface can consider the condition of the existing item, its continued usefulness and its eventual recovery. In Turkish renovation projects, assessing existing furniture is an important part of material selection.
Recycled content and suitability for protective film are separate questions. The announcement does not establish film compatibility. MKK® continues to assess surfaces individually and does not apply film to edge-banded products because of swelling risk.
Availability and take-back arrangements in Türkiye remain questions to monitor. The reviewed announcements provide no Türkiye-specific sales or recovery programme. This is therefore an international commercial example, rather than evidence of a local programme.
