Maison&Objet Pulse 2026: Interior Design Moves Beyond Furniture

Maison&Objet, one of the world’s major design gatherings, is preparing to open its new “Pulse” format in Paris from 10 to 14 September 2026. Its central message is clear: an interior is no longer simply a place furnished with objects. It is becoming an integrated ecosystem in which materials, craft, fragrance, food, light and user experience are designed together.

News at a Glance

According to Maison&Objet’s official figures, the event at Paris Nord Villepinte will bring together 1,700 brands from 49 countries. Seven sectors will extend across four halls, while 450 new brands per session are expected to meet design professionals. The “Pulse in Motion” theme was developed with trend-forecasting agency NellyRodi, and Spanish design studio Masquespacio is serving as ambassador for the edition.

The seven official sectors are Decor & Design, Cook & Share, Fine Craft, Wellness & Beauty, Fragrance & Ambiance, Fashion & Accessories, and Gift & Play. This structure signals how far interior design is expanding beyond the traditional boundaries of furniture and decoration. Official Maison&Objet event page

The Interior Becomes an Experience System

In its 13 August 2026 analysis, Architect Magazine describes the new format as a shift from interiors furnished with collections of objects toward spaces programmed as sensory experiences. Food presentation, scent, wellness, craft, collectibles and furniture now share the same design agenda.

The change is especially relevant to hospitality, retail and residential projects. The designer’s role is no longer limited to selecting the right chair, table or lighting fixture; it increasingly includes coordinating what people see, touch and experience within a space. Materials and Texture Return to the Centre

One of the fair’s key installations, In Materia, is conceived by trend specialist Elizabeth Leriche in collaboration with Ateliers d’Art de France. It will highlight living materials, the expressive power of texture, limited editions and contemporary craftsmanship. Wood, stone, glass, ceramic, metal and textiles are presented not merely as technical components but as design elements that shape the emotional character of an interior. Masquespacio’s “Feel the Shift” installation also explores the invisible relationships between people, spaces and emotions. The current programme supports new approaches to materials and use through Design District, Future On Stage and the Rising Talent Awards South Africa. Maison&Objet 2026 programme

What Does This Mean for Furniture and Architectural Surfaces?

The development has three important implications for the furniture and architectural-wrapping sector:

  1. The surface is no longer background. Colour, gloss, texture and touch are becoming as important to design value as furniture form.
  2. Design and service life must be considered together. Daily use, cleaning and maintenance scenarios for valuable wood, lacquer, marble, glass and metal surfaces need to be evaluated during the project stage.
  3. Interiors are becoming multi-material systems. Combining different surfaces within the same space makes compatibility, care methods and professional installation knowledge increasingly important.

MKK® Industry Perspective

Maison&Objet Pulse is not a surface-protection-film event, and there is no official relationship between the organiser and MKK®. However, the fair’s emphasis on materials, texture and user experience provides a meaningful direction of travel for the architectural-wrapping industry.

MKK® believes that designing a beautiful surface will not be enough in the next phase of the market. Designers, manufacturers and applicators will need to consider the original appearance, real-life use, cleaning, maintenance and achievable service life of a surface as one connected system.

On suitable substrates, professionally installed transparent SPF surface-protection film can help reduce risks from ordinary scratching and staining without concealing the design of furniture, tables, marble, lacquer, glass or metal. Not every surface is automatically suitable. The substrate should be identified and compatibility, appearance and removal behaviour should be tested in a discreet area before full installation.

An Opportunity for Türkiye

For Türkiye’s strong furniture-manufacturing base and growing interior-design market, this direction creates a clear opportunity. Competition is no longer shaped only by form and price, but also by material narrative, tactile quality, ease of care, traceable installation and design value that can be preserved over time.

The main industry message of Maison&Objet Pulse 2026 can be summarised simply: the interior of the future will be composed not of isolated products but of coordinated layers of material and experience. Surface protection, correct installation and traceable records will therefore become more strategic alongside design itself.
