Furniture Surfaces Take Centre Stage at Intermob 2026

Intermob 2026 is approaching

Intermob 2026 will take place at the Tüyap Fair and Congress Center in Istanbul on 17–20 September 2026. The event’s official website and current 2026 product list confirm that the programme extends beyond furniture accessories to include covering materials, foils and membranes, surface-treatment chemicals, paints, adhesives and surface-processing machinery.

Organised by Reed Tüyap Fairs with the support of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Trade and in cooperation with MAKSDER, the exhibition will open for its 28th edition. Official visiting hours are 10:00–18:00 on 17–19 September and 10:00–17:00 on 20 September.

Why surfaces are central

Furniture appearance and use performance are not determined by the substrate alone. Decorative paper, foil, membrane, paint and other finishing layers affect colour, texture, gloss and cleaning behaviour.

The official product list shows the surface value chain in three parts:

edge bands, coatings, foils, membranes and decorative papers;
surface-treatment chemicals, paints and adhesives;
sanding and surface-treatment machinery.

This matters because a furniture surface is a system formed by the substrate, preparation, bonding and finish. Visual quality, edge performance, cleaning requirements and longevity depend on the complete construction.

What has been announced?

The organiser says the fair will bring together accessories, MDF and panel products, surface technologies, decorative products, forest products, chemicals, upholstery materials and production equipment. It also lists decorative panel and surface solutions, sustainable materials, production technologies and new collections among the areas visitors can explore.

Because technical performance data has not yet been published for every exhibited product, no conclusion should be drawn before the fair about the durability, chemistry or sustainability credentials of a particular foil or coating.

Industry implications

The product groups demonstrate that competition in furniture is not limited to shape and price. Surface consistency, production efficiency, damage management, maintenance, refurbishment and correct compatibility between panels, coatings, adhesives and films all have direct commercial consequences.

The separate listing of foils and membranes also highlights the role of surface transformation. However, factory-applied decorative foils, post-applied architectural finishes and transparent protection films are not interchangeable. Carrier chemistry, adhesive construction, thickness and intended use can differ materially.

Implications for Türkiye

Intermob 2026 gives Turkish furniture manufacturers and suppliers a current opportunity to examine materials, chemicals and production systems in one location. The organiser also describes an international buyer-delegation programme involving visitors from the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans, Europe and Central Asia.

Any commercial impact should be assessed after the event through realised visitor, meeting and order data; pre-event targets should not be presented as achieved results.

MKK® sector assessment

Intermob’s decision to present surface materials alongside chemicals and machinery reflects a fundamental reality of architectural wrapping: performance cannot be attributed to film alone. The substrate, existing paint or varnish, cleaning residue, adhesive behaviour, edge geometry and installation method must be assessed together.

Decorative transformation and surface protection must also be distinguished. Decorative film generally changes appearance; transparent protection film aims to preserve it. Possible use on the same substrate does not make the products technically identical.

In MKK®’s assessment, the fair’s foils, membranes and surface chemicals may create new opportunities in furniture refurbishment, extended service life and after-sales care. Compatibility should nevertheless be verified through manufacturer documentation, a sample application, a discreet-area test and professional assessment.
