Transparent Protective Film or Decorative Wrap?

Start a furniture-surface enquiry by deciding what should happen to its appearance. Do you want to retain the existing colour and texture, or change them? Transparent protection and decorative wrapping address different objectives, while both require assessment of the actual surface.
Transparent protection
A transparent film is considered when the existing finish should remain visible. Transparency does not promise zero visual change. Gloss, matte appearance and perceived texture should be reviewed on a physical sample.
View the sample in the intended space and under its lighting. Define the practical protection requirement and refer to the selected product’s documented limitations rather than assuming complete scratch or heat protection.
Decorative wrapping
Decorative wrapping is considered when the colour or pattern should change. Grain direction, coordination between parts and edge detailing belong in the project specification.
Changing the appearance does not repair swelling, loose finishes or structural damage. Assess those issues first. MKK® does not apply films to edge-banded products because of swelling risk, regardless of the desired design.
Compare the objectives
| Requirement | Next step |
|---|---|
| Keep marble veining and existing colour visible | Review transparent protection and a sample |
| Change colour or pattern | Assess a decorative project |
| Retain a matte appearance | Approve a sample on the actual surface |
| Address cracks or swelling | Assess damage before coating |
| Replace an existing film | Define removal and reassessment scope |
If a project proposes decorative material plus an additional protective layer, their combined suitability needs separate verification. Suitability of each material on its own does not establish compatibility of the layered system.
Prepare an enquiry
Share the material type where known, the result you want, the usage setting and photographs of the current condition. Show existing film, repairs and edges clearly. Do not guess the substrate when it is unknown.
Frequently asked questions
Does transparent film change the furniture colour?
Its objective is to retain the existing appearance. A colour or pattern change is a separate decorative choice.
Can marble and lacquer use the same solution?
Each surface needs its own assessment; a generic furniture-film description is insufficient.
Can protection be added over a decorative wrap?
Documentation and compatibility assessment are needed before approving a layered application.
