Measure Before Cutting

A beginner’s most expensive mistake is not merely measuring incorrectly; it is transferring dimensions without a written plan. Record width, length, corner radius, edge return and film direction for every piece.

Measurement sequence

Measure the widest width and length.
Check irregular corners with a template.
Confirm whether the edge return is actually feasible.
Add working allowance appropriate to the product and geometry.
Verify dimensions a second time, preferably with another installer.

The cutting map

Because roll width is fixed, random cutting creates large unusable gaps. Nest every piece on a scaled roll diagram. If the finish is directional, mark every part in the same orientation. Assign each cut piece a code matching the furniture item.

Safe cutting

Pre-cut on a mat with a metal straightedge. Freehand cutting on furniture is a risk to avoid. Determine liner side, topcoat and blade direction from the exact product instruction.

Waste tracking

Record usable remnants by dimensions, product code and batch. Do not mix reusable offcuts with waste. Calculate waste after the job so quotations and inventory planning rely on real data.
