The Beginner SPF Installer Toolkit: Essential Equipment

The First Toolkit

A good installation is not defined by the number of expensive tools. It starts with the correct, clean tool used at the correct stage. Organise the kit into installation, measurement, cleaning, inspection and safety groups.

Essential equipment

  • Squeegees with clean felt and undamaged edges
  • Adjustable spray bottle and product-approved application fluid
  • Lint-free cloths separated by task
  • Tape measure, steel ruler, square and cutting mat
  • Locking 30-degree application knife and spare blades
  • Edge tool, air-release needle and masking tape
  • Strong side-inspection lamp and surface thermometer
  • Cut-resistant gloves, knee protection and shoe covers

Clean and dirty separation

A cloth used to clean the substrate must not be used on top of the film. Replace felt that touches the floor. Label spray bottles and never use an unidentified chemical. Store used blades in a closed sharps container.

Building the beginner kit

Lay out the complete kit before every job. Postpone the installation instead of improvising with unsuitable objects. Credit cards, window squeegees or metal scrapers may mark film or damage furniture.

60-second pre-job check

  1. Is the felt edge clean?
  2. Does the knife lock securely?
  3. Are cloths truly lint-free?
  4. Are measuring tools accurate?
  5. Do the lamp and thermometer work?
  6. Is the blade-disposal container ready?
